Birthday Celebrations - the big 50
Sandy and I had a couple of nights away in St Fillans - a tiny village in the Trossachs which is a very beautiful part of Scotland and, supposedly, the gateway to the Highlands. The hotel is owned by a Chef and the food was delicious although, surprisingly, I never put any weight on - must have been all the walks Sandy dragged me on! We came back on Thursday just in time for my birthday on Friday - had a lovely day. A parcel arrived from my eldest son who's in Taiwan, a beautiful bouquet of flowers from my other son and daughter was delivered and my best friend took me out for lunch. Got lots of money and will probably buy a nice piece of jewellery - definitely going to buy something rather than just reduce my overdraft! Had a meal in the evening with the family which meant that I'd been celebrating for the whole day. I've attached some photos of a couple of the places we visited while we were away - the first picture is the view from our hotel room, the other 2 are views of the Falls of Dochart in Killin.

    Life Update
I was never a fervent poster to lj, although I read my friends' updates every day, but even I can't believe it's been 9 months since I last posted an entry. I also seem to have reverted to lurker mode and, although I read tons of great fic, I'm very rarely commenting to the authors - my bad. All that is about to change, however, and - for those of you who still might have some interest in my (or mostly my family's) goings-on - see behind the cut.

    Oops!
As you'll know I don't update very often and I just realised my previous post didn't identify the photos. For info:- the first one is Rievaulx Abbey, second is Fountains Abbey, third is Sandy on the stepping stones at Studley Royal Water Gardens which are beside Fountains and the last is York Minster. All really beautiful but my favourite was definitely Rievaulx.

    Silver Wedding Trip
I thought I'd post a few photos from our stay in Yorkshire. We stayed in a small town called Boroughbridge, a few miles north of York and stayed in a hotel that used to be a 17th century Coaching Inn - ideal for touring around. We had a really lovely time - with no arguments. The weather was kind to us - kinda cold but no rain and mostly really sunny. It was really noticeable the difference that extra two hundred or so miles further south makes - blossom was out on the trees and the flowers were much further along than in Edinburgh. Came home to lots of cards and gifts from the family and we all went out for a meal the day after we got back. Lovely to look round and see all your nearsest and dearest so happy for you.

Sandy and I have been married for 25 years on Tuesday 18th and we're going away to Yorkshire for a few days tomorrow - no kids, just us - seems kinda strange but we're both looking forward to the break. No PC either - even stranger!

Happy Birthday to [info]deborahmm - hope you've had a great day and Birthday wishes for tomorrow to [info]sexymermaid.

    Almost Empty Nest
Well, Sandy and I took Jamie up to Aberdeen yesterday, having spent the previous day packing and shopping at IKEA and just generally rushing around like blue-arsed fleas. It's a 2-3 hour drive to Aberdeen from Edinburgh and it felt like we were going uphill all the way which, I suppose we were. Jamie had been out for a farewell drink with his pals the night before and hadn't gotten home till 5am so he slept most of the way - God to be that young again!.

Arrived in Aberdeen - and finally located his accommodation. It's about a 15 minute walk from the city centre and, for student halls, really quite nice - based on 6-8 people sharing a flat with a communal shower, bathroom, kitchen/diner and living room with each having their own bedroom. And although his acceptance was so late - the University managed to let him be in the same flat as one of his friends from Edinburgh so that makes me feel a bit better.

We went down to the main campus as I hadn't visited before - went to see the great new sports facilities and the really lovely surroundings down by the river - Jamie's degree is in Sports & Exercise Science. All in all, I'm really pleased with everything - if he has to be away from home then this is probably as good as it gets. Still going to miss him like crazy - but I keep telling myself, it's just the next phase of both his and our lives.

We found out in April that my son Jamie had a conditional acceptance to the course of his choice at the university of his choice, if he achieved certain grades in his higher exams and passed the university's chemistry 'access' course. He sat the exams in May but we had to wait until August to hear that he'd passed them. He started the access course via distance learning at the end of July and sat the exam yesterday. He was really unsure if he'd done enough to pass but we were told today that he did and so he leaves for Aberdeen on Monday!!!!! He's been under such pressure for so long to get these results but I'm so proud of him and I'm gonna miss him so much. That's two sons away studying and only my daughter still at home - and she's away in Dublin this weekend on a school trip. So looking forward to a stress-free sleep tonight.

    Too Hot
It's 30 degrees C today (mid-eighties F)! In Edinburgh! Absolutely gorgeous but we're just not used to these temperatures in Scotland - not even in summer, so we don't have air conditioning and the house feels like the central heating is on. It's been like this for a few days now and it's really difficult to get to sleep at night. I'm on the first of my 3 weeks leave from work and I keep falling asleep during the day which is nice but making me feel really lazy. Still, much rather the heat than the rain.

It's been a holiday weekend here in the UK and with my new exercise regime now in place I've been walking much much more. Sandy and I drove down to Bamburgh on Friday - a small villlage in Northumberland just over the English border and only a couple of hours drive from Edinburgh where we live - it has a wonderful castle and a glorious beach - there's some photos behind the tag, if you're interested.

Today we went to the Queen's Park, right in the centre of Edinburgh - a huge green area, the site of an extinct volcano with wonderful views over Edinburgh - more photos behind the tag.

PS Thanks to [info]ficbitcabear for the names of the web space providers.

Adding Images to my Journal Entries
Looking for advice. I'd like to be able to sometimes add a photo to my journal entries - looked at lj faq but have absolutely no idea where to look for a "webspace provider that allows remote loading to live journal" which is, apparently, what I need.

Can anybody help point me in the right direction?

Look - Pink Snow - I posted an entry!
It's almost a year since I opened my account and I haven't really made much use of my journal. I don't write fic and as my life isn't really that interesting to anybody but me, I've hardly made any posts. I've decided that, it's my journal and whether anybody else reads it or not, this year I'm going try and post more.

To spare you details, I've even done a cut post - I hope.

    Fic Rec
Followed a link from Shakatany to a great fic called Second Verse by Litgal at the Nummy Treats Archive. It's Spike/Xander, 15 chapters, complete and absolutely begging for a sequel. It can be found here http://nummytreats.forsaken-faith.org/archive - go read and feedback to the author.

Done all my shopping. Cooked the turkey. Prepared the veggies. Wrapped all the pressies. Am now going to sit down, relax and have a few drinks and watch the telly.

Hope all is well with you and yours wherever you are. Have a Happy Christmas.

    Looking for a fic
A fic I read recently, can't remember where. It only had one chapter and I'd love to read more. 10 years after the chip was implanted, Spike is starving, lonely and scared and goes to a demon sex club called Hellmouth for work - turns out Xander is the owner. Any suggestions?
